West Indies beat England to lift their second World T20 title, but there were some moments of joy for Indian cricket fans.
India's Virat Kohli has been named the player of the tournament for his stellar batting performances throughout the tournament.
Virat Kohli's amazing run with the bat in the ICC T20 World Cup 2016 got the top order Indian batsman the award at the conclusion of T20 world cup at Eden Gardens, Kolkata.
This is the second successive time Kohli has won the award after he was also named as the player of the 2014 tournament in Bangladesh following his 319 runs which helped India reach the final.
He was the unanimous choice of a select group of former cricket stars and highly respected commentators following his sensational form in the tournament, which helped India reach the semi-finals.
“Although I’m disappointed that we were not able to make it through to the final and win the ICC World Twenty20 title on home soil, I’m proud to be named the player of the tournament," said Virat reacting to the announcement.
The 27-year-old scored a total of 273 at an average of 136.50 in five innings with a strike-rate of just under 147.
