Fifty Eight (58) year old Amar Singh has been appointed the new Police Chief of Malaysia’s capital city Kuala Lumpur, the first ever Sikh to get selected to the top position.

This is a great achievement for the Sikh community in Malaysia which is a Muslim-majority country with Sikhs being a minority. According to New Straits Times Sikhs constitute 0.16% of the police force in Malaysia.

Speaking at the police headquarters at his appointment, Mr Singh said, “This also proves that the force’s leadership are colour blind in promoting its officers as well as in executing our duties”.

Amar Singh’s father and maternal grandfather both served in the police force, which makes him a third generation policeman and the first ever Malaysia Sikh to achieve the highest rank ever in the police force.
