Acknowledging the contribution of the Indian community living in Australia, the Federal Opposition leader said: "The 72nd anniversary of India enacting its own Constitution is truly one worth celebrating."

"As Leader of the Australian Labor Party, I would also like to acknowledge the Indian community in Australia, both those who have moved here permanently and so greatly enriched our multicultural society."

"January 26 finds both our countries sharing significant national days. As such, it is a perfect day to reflect on the many other things we share: our unshakeable belief in the primacy of ballot box; our commitment to human dignity and human rights; our cultural, community, trade and economic links; and, of course, our passion for cricket," Mr Albanese said in his statement.
