In a horrific incident in the eastern Indian state of Jharkhand, a mentally challenged man was arrested after he beheaded a middle-aged woman teacher in Seraikela-Kharswan district on Wednesday.
According to the police report, the accused identified as Hari Hembram barged into Khaprasai Primary School when a mid-day meal was being served to the students.
The 26-year-old who is reported to be mentally challenged then launched an attack on the teacher, Sukru Hessa who was conducting a physical training session at the time.
The witnesses told the police that the accused dragged Ms Hessa to a distance, stomped her to the ground and beheaded her with a sword.
While Ms Hessa died on the spot, Hembram reportedly wandered around with her battered head for nearly 5 kms, threatening the onlookers with the sword for over two hours before being arrested.
Seraikela-Kharsawan Superintendent of Police, P Chandan Kumar Sinha told Times of India that “We are yet to ascertain the motive behind the murder. The accused seemed to be deranged”.
After his arrest, Hembram was reportedly attacked by the mob who lashed at him in anger despite the police presence. He was rushed to a nearby hospital with critical injuries.
