The body of a young man, suspected to be of a missing student from Melbourne, has been found at a beach in Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula.
This comes in the wake of the disappearance of three students from Melbourne over the last weekend, two of which were rescued by airlifting from the London Bridge area of Portsea Beach in Victoria.
Khalil Nabizadah, a 23-year-old engineering student from Narre Warren is reported to be missing after he went for swimming to Portsea Beach with two of his friends from Cranbourne and Cranbourne West, who were rescued. They were brought to Melbourne’s Royal Melbourne Hospital for treatment.
One was in a serious but stable condition while the other didn’t require any treatment. The body of a young man that was found at Portsea Beach has yet not been identified and the police have called off the search for Nabizadah.
It is suspected the young men got caught in a rip current off Portsea Beach’s London Bridge area which is labelled by Life Saving Victoria — a non-profit organisation that works for water sports safety and provides rescue services at Victorian beaches — as one of the state’s most hazardous beaches due to its high waves, rocks and reefs.
This beach, which is said to be suited for experienced bathers and surfers only. On an average, this beach reports 143 rescue missions by Portsea Club, the highest in Victoria.
