26th January is celebrated as Indian Republic Day to honour the date on which the Constitution of India came into effect in 1950.
Each year, this day is marked to highlight India’s culture, history and achievements.
Melbourne Stars will celebrate India’s Republic Day at the Melbourne Cricket ground during their next Big Bash League match on 27th January.
Melbourne Stars' Indian Community Ambassador Nancy Loomba told SBS Punjabi that the inaugural Indian Republic Day party will combine three of the Indian communities’ favourite passions – cricket, dance and music.
“On this day, we hope to see Australia’s biggest ever Indian Republic Day party,” said Ms Loomba.
"The event will be supported by variety of entertainment activities such as dress up march with dhol and Bhangra from Richmond Station followed by Indian national anthem and traditional dance performances.
Ms Loomba told SBS the Indian Republic Day party will feature a number of Indian style dances including Bhangra, Bollywood, South Asian, Gujarati and urban fusion.

"Following the party in the MCG precinct, the Indian community will come together in a dedicated fan bay at the MCG to cheer on the Melbourne Stars in their match against the Hobart Hurricanes," she says.
“During the match in stadium DJ will feature classic Indian songs to entertain the crowd.
“We are also plan to have a special parade that will see people dressed up in colourful Indian attire. But it entirely depends upon the number of people turning up for the event.
Clint Cooper, CEO of the Melbourne Stars said they are already looking forward to the event. “On behalf of the Melbourne Stars, we look forward to welcoming the Indian community at the MCG for another great season of Big Bash.”
