When it comes to gaffes, there is perhaps no dearth in Indian politics. And when a politician goofs-up, the aftermath can be instant and the damage quite fatal.
And this time, the comments that are lighting up Twitter were made by India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi whose recent speech at a public event has become a subject of mockery for meme creators on the micro-blogging platform.
While addressing a gathering on World Bio-fuel Day, Mr Modi shared various examples of converting sewage into biogas and how the end-product can be used as a fuel for cooking purposes.
But what triggered the laugh riot was the Prime Minister’s recount of a strange incident involving a tea vendor from Gujarat state who owned a kiosk that was stationed next to a sewer.
In his speech, Mr Modi said the tea seller used to simply invert a vessel, drill a hole directly into the pipeline and harness toxic gases emanating from the sewer to power his stove.
But Mr Modi’s Eureka moment soon became a full-blown troll on social media and in no time the online space was hit with an onslaught of memes.
But the Prime Minister is not the only one.
Recently, Congress Party President Rahul Gandhi’s comments got the meme treatment when he claimed that the founder of Coca-Cola used to sell lemonade before setting up the beverage company.
And as expected, the internet was flooded with a flurry of sassy responses.
