International Education

The Government is putting $12 million over four years towards support implementation of the National Strategy for International Education.

It says it's aimed at keeping Australia competitive in attracting international students to study with Australian providers.

It also seeks to enable Australia to grow and diversify its share of the global international education market through innovative course offerings.

Changes in Adult Migrant English Program

The Government has promised to redesign the Adult Migrant English Program.

It says changes aim to improve participation, English language proficiency, and employment outcomes.

Key changes include offering additional hours of English tuition to eligible people, introducing better monitoring of improvements in English skills.

It also establishes two new services - Social English and Pre-Employment English.

The cost of this measure is to be met from within the existing resources of the Department of Education and Training.

Child and Adult Public Dental Scheme

The Government has announced changes to public dental services to help disadvantaged Australians.

It says $1.7 billion will be provided over four years from 2016-17 for a new Child and Adult Public Dental Scheme to be delivered by the states and territories under a National Partnership Agreement.

All children and adult concession card holders will be eligible for the Scheme and the states will have the flexibility to provide funded services to other groups based on need.

Service levels for an individual will not be capped.

The Government says it will provide 40 per cent of what it calls the "national efficient price" for all dental services provided under the Scheme, with the states providing the remaining 60 per cent.

The cost of the agreement is to be offset by terminating the Child Dental Benefits Schedule and the existing National Partnership Agreement for Adult Public Dental Services.
