Mother, son die after car crashes into a stationary truck

A shocking video footage has emerged of a car crash in the state of Punjab in India. The accident claimed lives of a 28-year-old man and his mother who were on way home from Delhi airport.

A 28-year-old man and his mother died in a road accident near the old toll barrier in Doraha near Ludhiana, Punjab on Friday morning.

The deceased were identified as Manvir Singh Saggu and his 50-year-old mother Bhagwant Kaur of Mullanpur Dakha, Ludhiana.

Manvir was driving the car and died on the spot, while his mother was declared brought dead at the local hospital.

Manvir’s friend Rajat, a resident of Shivpuri Ludhiana, was admitted to the Dyananand Hospital, Ludhiana in a serious condition.

The deceased were on way home from Delhi in a Maruti Vitara car that rammed into a stationary truck near Doraha in Punjab.

Police said that the son had picked up his mother, who had returned from Canada, from the Delhi airport.

Eyewitnesses said Manvir who was driving the car couldn't spot a truck that was parked on the GT Road, Doraha.

It was reported that the driver of the truck parked on the road to take tea refreshment from the nearby roadside ‘dhaba’.

Police Official ASI Teja Singh said a case has been registered against the unidentified driver of the truck who fled the scene under sections 304 A (causing death due to negligence), 283 (Obstructing in Public way or line of navigation), 337 causing hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others) of Indian Penal Code.

According to an estimate, road accidents escalate to more than 15% in north India during the winter months of November to January.

Driver negligence, fog, smog and poor road conditions are some of the factors that lead to road traffic accidents.
