South Australia released its 2016-17 list of State Nominated Occupations for skilled migration. However, within 24 hours of the list coming into effect, some occupations have already been closed and are only available for applicants who meet special requirements.
Some other occupations have low availability and a few others are in medium availability.
Occupations of Financial Institution Branch Managers, Software Testers, ICT Support Engineers and mechanical Engineering Technicians are closed. However, applicants who meet special requirement listed by Immigration South Australia are still able access them.
Though there are fewer occupations that have closed early this year as compared with last year.
Gurpreet Sandhu, a registered migration agent, says Migration South Australia has made some significant changes to state-nomination program this year.
"South Australia has made some significant changes in the selection criteria for some occupations which were most in demand last year.
Some of these major changes are increasing points to 70 from 60 for all IT occupations because the number of applications last year was so high that some IT occupations were closed within the first hour or so," he says.
"Another significant change this year is to give nominations only for subclass 489 for some occupations even where candidates meet the requirement for a permanent visa," added Mr. Sandhu.
In order to meet these special conditions, the applicant has to be in one of the following categories and meet all the requirements thereof.
An international graduate of South Australia
Has worked in a skilled occupation in South Australia for the last 12 months
Has an immediate family member permanently residing in South Australia for 12 months or more
Has high points
Telecommunications Engineer and Mechanical Engineering Draftsperson are among the occupations that are close to being filled and have low availability now.
Training and development professional, Economist, Industrial Designer, ICT Business analyst, Database administrator, Telecommunications Network engineer, Maintenance planner and Pastry cook have medium availability left.
