On Thursday, Pakistan test launched Shaheen-II, a surface-to-surface ballistic missile, the country’s intelligence agency, Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) tweeted.

“The training launch was aimed at ensuring the operational readiness of the Army Strategic Forces Command. Shaheen-II missile is capable of carrying both conventional and nuclear warheads up to a range of 1,500 kilometres,” a press release issued by the ISPR stated.

Maj Gen Asif Ghafoor, who is the Director-General of ISPR, took to Twitter to announce this operation.

The launch had its impact point in the Arabian Sea.

The press release further described Shaheen-II as a “highly capable missile which fully meets Pakistan's strategic needs towards maintenance of desired deterrence stability in the region.”

A day before, on May 22, India successfully test fired the aerial version of the supersonic BrahMos cruise missile from a Su-30 MKI fighter aircraft. This was announced by the Indian Air Force on Twitter too.

BrahMos Aerospace, an India-Russian joint venture, produces the supersonic cruise missile that can be launched from submarines, ships, aircraft or from land platforms.
