From Monday, August 7 to Wednesday, August 16, 2017, Los Angeles hosted the World Police & Fire Games (WPFG).
More than 8,000 athletes, all active or retired Police Officers or Firefighters, from over 70 countries competed in over 65 different sports and disciplines.
An Indian migrant Paramvir Singh Chattwal represented Australia at the annual sports carnival.
Mr Chattwal won a Gold and Silver medal competing in the full bore rifle and police tactical pistol shooting competition.
Following this achievement at WPFG, Mr Chattwal's mother Kawaljit Kaur has shared her happiness with SBS Punjabi.
“We are very happy to see him achieve this milestone. It’s a proud moment for Indian-Australian community.”
“He started practicing firearms as a hobby and a job requirement about three years ago.”
“Now, he has won a Gold and a Silver with his hard work, passion and keen interest. It’s a proud moment for any mother to see her son on victory stand.”
Parmvir spent most of his time at Chandigarh and Ambala before moving to Australia.

“He was the first from our family to migrate to Australia in 2014,” said his mother Kawaljit Kaur.
“To our knowledge, he was the only turban wearing Sikh who won a Gold medal.”
“In a way, we’re very happy to see this opportunity as a promotion for the Sikh identity.”
Mr Chattwal graduated in July last year and now works at Glen Innes Correctional Centre in the state's North after a stint at Goulburn Correctional Centre – the first Sikh to work there.
43-year-old Mr Chattwal has won a bronze medal in the Australian Emergency Services Pistol Championships in Canberra in 2015. He won six silver medals at the Victorian Police Pistol Club Championships last year.
He also carried the Australian flag during the 2016 Australasian Police and Emergency Services Games on the Sunshine Coast in Queensland.
