Police investigate indecent act on tram in North Melbourne

Police are appealing for public assistance following an incident on a tram in North Melbourne.

Victoria Police are investigating an alleged indecent act reported to have occurred on 16 February.

According to police, a 20-year-old female passenger boarded the 57 tram outside the Queen Victoria Market about 10.30pm. 

As the tram headed toward West Maribyrnong an unknown man approached her and indecently assaulted her, says Police.

A female passenger came to the victim’s aid and the man got off the tram at the corner of Errol and Queensberry Streets in North Melbourne.

The man is perceived to be of Indian Sub-Continental appearance with a beard and was wearing a red top and a turban.

Investigators would like to speak to the female commuter that assisted the victim or anyone who may have witnessed the incident.
