Rahul Dravid declines Honorary Degree from Bangalore University

Former Indian cricket captain, Rahul Dravid has politely declined to accept the Honorary Doctorate Degree that Bangalore University wanted to confer on him.

Rahul Dravid was born in Indore and grew up in the city of Bangaluru. He went to St Joseph’s Boys High School and later attended St Joseph’s College of Commerce during his graduation years. He was studying MBA at the St Joseph’s College of Business Administration when he was selected for the national team.    

Dravid made his international debut for India in 1996. He went on to represent India in 164 test matches and scored 13,288 runs, the second most by any Indian in cricket’s oldest format after Sachin Tendulkar. He retired from the sport in the year 2012. He currently coaches U-19 team.

The Bangalore University had decided to honor Dravid during its 52nd Annual Convocation ceremony on January 27th but the 44 year politely declines the degree.

A statement released by The Bangalore University said that Dravid “in all humility declined to accept the honorary degree”. The statement also went on to say that

“Dravid would try to earn a Doctorate Degree by accomplishing some form of academic research in the field of sports rather than receiving an honorary degree”
