Ustad Amjad Ali Khan took to social media to express his disappointment on Friday after his visa to travel to the country for a performance was rejected.
Sarod master Ustad Amjad Ali Khan was supposed to perform at the Royal Festival Hall in September this year, a function organised by the Southbank Centre as part of Darbar Festival 2016 which aims at showcasing the talent of contemporary Indian Classical Musicians. He has been performing in this country for many years and this trip was nothing unusual.
He took to twittter to express his disappointment and horror at being denied entry into UK and also tagged Union External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj, Indian High Commission in London and British High Commission in New Delhi in his tweets to bring the matter to their attention.
This is not the first time an Indian celebrity has been denied entry into a country or being hassled at an international airport. Just this week, Indian movie star Shah Rukh Khan was detained at the Los Angeles Airport apparently as a result of racial profiling.
