28 year old Inderjeet Singh, a shot putter hailing from Haryana, has failed a doping test as his sample “A” returned positive.
Inderjeet is the Asian Champion in his sport and his out-of-competition test was done on 22nd June 2016. He has been informed about his positive result by the National Anti-Doping Agency. The agency has also asked the athlete that if he wants to get his “B” sample tested, he should do so within seven days. If the sample “B” also returns positive, then Inderjeet will have to miss the Rio Olympic Games and could potentially be banned for 4 years under the new WADA regulations.
Inderjeet won a silver medal in shot-put in 2014 Asian Games and qualified last year itself and is one of the first track and field athletes to qualify for Rio Olympics.
Inderjeet does not train at the national camp and usually trains on his own with his personal trainer.
