Journalist and broadcaster, Ranvir Singh has been appointed the new Chancellor of University of Central Lancashire (UCLan). The Economic Times has reported that Ranvir Singh, 39 became the third Chancellor of the University in Preston where she grew up and also completed her post graduate Diploma in Broadcast Journalism in 2000. She is well known with-in UK and appears regularly on ITV channel’s new shows.
“I am immensely proud to accept the University’s offer of becoming its new Chancellor. I am Preston born and bred, I studied for my post-graduate degree in journalism here and the experience helped me shape me and my career”, Singh said in a statement after taking charge.
Apart from regularly appearing on ITV’s news shows, Singh also presents her own prime time series for ITV called ‘Real Stories with Ranvir Singh’.
Ranvir Singh was also given the UCLan Honorary Fellowship for her contribution to broadcasting. She took over as Chancellor from Sir Richard Evans and the ceremony also marked the inauguration of Professor Mike Thomas as the University’s fourth vice-Chancellor.
“I am truly honored to be given this opportunity of helping inspire the next generation of talent coming through. The University has an exciting future and I can’t wait to be a part of it”, she said.
About Ranvir Singh
Ranvir Singh was born in 1977 in Preston, Lancashire, into a Sikh family. After getting her education at Kirkham Grammar School, she graduated from the University of Lancashire with a degree in English and Philosophy. She then did her post graduate qualification in Journalism at the school of Journalism, Media and Communication, University of Central Lancashire in Preston.
Singh started her work experience with BBC Radio Lancashire before winning a contract with them. After working with BBC for many years, Singh decided to move to ITV breakfast program Daybreak.
