Members of the minority Sikh community took to streets in Afghanistan to protest against the abduction and killing of a community member in the restive Nangarhar province.
According to media reports, Rawail Singh, a resident of Jalalabad was abducted from his house on Saturday morning by militants. Mr. Singh was later found dead in Khalis Famil area.
The protesting members of the Sikh community staged a demonstration by placing the body of the deceased outside the provincial governor’s house in Jalalabad.
Accusing the security forces of negligence in arresting the alleged killers, the protesters demanded immediate arrest of those behind the killing.
Rawinder Singh, one of the protestors, told Pajhwok Afghan News that Rawail Singh had a dispute with his neighbour over a party at his home a day before his abduction.
The neighbor next morning came along with some gunmen and abducted Singh from his home before killing him, he said.
Darbhajan Singh, a friend of the deceased, said the minority community had never been subjected to such atrocities in the past.
“Our homes are being occupied, we are threatened and our friend was mercilessly killed, but no one came to our help.”
Later, deputy governor Mohammad Hanif Gardiwal met the protesting Sikhs and condoled the death of Rawail Singh.
