Sajan Singh who served as a priest at Auckland Sikh Temple has denied charges of doing indecent acts on children at a trial started on June 18 at the Auckland District Court.

Mr Singh is facing six charges related to allegedly touching two girls' bottoms.

The trial heard pre-recorded interviews of the alleged victims.

One of the girls stated that she told her mother that she was ‘scared’ of a priest at the temple and was afraid he would touch her inappropriately.

One girl aged under 16 and another under 12 years have provided details of the alleged molestation at six different occasions.

The girl said that the rooms at the temple where she was abused did not have security cameras.

“It's very wrong you know. I don't know why he does it," she said. "I was feeling so awkward when he does it."

As the trial started on Tuesday, Sajan Singh used a Punjabi interpreter for his explanations.

Singh's lawyer cross-examined one of the girls, asking her if the man who touched her was indeed his client.

Prosecutors claim that the alleged abuse occurred between January and October 2017.

Singh is on bail. The trial continues.
