An uncle of deceased Bollywood actor Sridevi has revealed the probable cause of her death.

Venugopal Reddy, Sridevi’s uncle, in an interview to Telugu news channel iDream News, said that under her smiling façade was concealed a stressed wife who was under immense mental stress arising from her husband’s financial debts. Referring to Sridevi’s husband Boney Kapoor, a well-known film producer based Mumbai, Mr Reddy mentioned that his financial status had taken a downturn due to some investments gone bad and it was Sridevi who came to his rescue.  He also went on to add that due to Mr Kapoor’s sagging financial fortunes, Sridevi had to return to the screen in order to help her husband pay off the debts.

“What we knew was Boney Kapoor lost a lot of money in a few films and they sold Sridevi's properties to make up for the losses. And Sridevi always had that pain in her heart. Sridevi lived in pain and passed away with a lot of pain in her heart. She was not at peace. She wore a smile on her face for the world but she went through a lot inside her,” her uncle said in his interview, adding: “Boney produced a film which never saw the light of the day, and they were financially going through a tough phase. Sridevi sold her properties and cleared those debts to get life back on track. And that was the main reason why Sridevi got back to acting in films.”

Sridevi passed away under mysterious circumstances in Dubai last month where she had gone with the rest of her family to attend the wedding of her husband’s nephew and actor Mohit Marwah. A couple of days after the wedding, when she had decided to stay on in Dubai for shopping, Mr Kapoor gave her a surprise and flew to join her there. A couple of hours after he reached Sridevi’s hotel room, she was found dead submerged in a bathtub. Her funeral was performed in Mumbai earlier this month.
