A 50-year-old woman in Sydney has suffered serious injury and is fighting for her life after being shot in the head with a nail gun.
Ragini Narayan was at her Bonnyrigg home in Western Sydney when she was shot with a nail gun on Tuesday night following an alleged altercation with a 20-year-old man, believed to be her stepson, Nine News reported.
Police allege Akaash Narayan fired the nail gun at Ms Narayan’s head from close range and she was struck in the head multiple times. He then fled on foot but was arrested at 3:40 am from Bonnyrigg Heights on Wednesday.
He was taken to Fairfield Police Station for questioning before being charged with causing grievous bodily harm with intent to murder. He was denied bail and is due before Parramatta Bail Court on Thursday.
Ms Narayan was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics at the scene before she was taken to Liverpool Hospital to undergo emergency surgery where she continues to remain in a critical condition.
Fairfield Police Station acting Inspector Paul Luczak told Nine News that Ms Narayan had severe injuries to her head.
"I believe it was three times she was hit in the head," he said.
Investigators are still not sure what sparked the altercation.
"They were celebrating Christmas and we're not sure what actually started the incident. It was just immediate family there.”
Her husband who was at home when Ms Narayan was attacked, was treated for shock.
