The Indian cricket team, led by Virat Kohli has created history by winning the first ever bilateral One-Day International series in South Africa after the visitors beat the hosts in the fifth match at St George’s Park.
The series victory ends the Indian team’s nil record against South Africa as it had never won a series since India’s first tour of the country in 1992, barring just a one-off T20 contest in 2006.
India beat SA in the 5th ODI by 73 runs after posting 274 due to a century by opener Rohit Sharma. Chasing the target, the hosts were packed up for 201 in less than 43 overs by dint of India’s spin prowess.
Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal together picked six wickets.
Hardik Pandya claimed 2 for 30 and then a run-out with a direct hit to send the in-form Hashim Amla packing when he was playing at 71.
Rohit Sharma brought up his second century against South Africa and his 17th over all. He scored 115 in 126 balls.
With the series win, Indian has also strengthened their number one ranking in ODI Cricket after starting the series as the number two team behind South Africa. The team has now moved to 122 points.
India will play the sixth and final ODI of the series on Friday at SuperSport Park in Centurian.
The Indian men's cricket team under Virat Kohli has achieved what it couldn't under previous captains, including MS Dhoni, Saurav Ganguly and Sachin Tendulkar.
