Security forces now believe there are three more active gunmen inside the compound.

On Friday, official car of Superintendent of Police of Pathankot was hijacked, and one staff member killed by four gunmen dressed in army fatigues. It is believed, the same car may have been used by the gunmen to storm the airbase.

According to reports in the Indian media, the gunmen belong to Jaish-e-Mohammed, an outfit raised by Maulana Masood Azhar who was one of the three Pakistani prisoners swapped in exchange for passengers of hijacked flight IC 814 in December 1999.
