Voter support for Malcolm Turnbull has dropped below predecessor Tony Abbott's last voter satisfaction reading prior to his ousting as prime minister in September last year.
The Australian reports that the latest Newspoll survey shows the prime minister's satisfaction rating sits at 29 per cent, compared to Mr Abbott's last ranking as leader of 30 per cent.
Opposition leader Bill Shorten's satisfaction rating was static at 36 per cent.
On a preferred prime minister basis Mr Turnbull remains ahead at 42 per cent, to Mr Shorten's 32 per cent.
Labor has maintained its lead over the coalition for the third consecutive reading, sitting at 52 per cent for the government's 48 per cent on a two-party preferred basis.
On a primary vote reading, the coalition sits on 38 per cent, Labor at 37 per cent, Greens at 10 per cent and independents at 14 per cent.
Liberal Senator Arthur Sinodinos who backed the spill motion against Tony Abbott that saw Malcolm Turnbull seize Prime Ministership did not rule out Tony Abbott's return as prime minister.
"In politics I've learnt through bitter experience you never rule anything in or out," Senator Sinodinos said on ABC's Q&A program on Monday night.
"But my view is that the party is moving on and the younger generation of members coming through, including conservative members, are looking at their own careers and their own future and how we make the Liberal Party narrative more contemporary," he added.
"You never rule anything out in this business. If I had to put money on it, I wouldn't put money on it for the reasons I mentioned before," said Senator Sinodinos.
