A film stunt has gone horribly wrong in a Kannada film - a sub-section of the Indian film industry focused on Kannada-language films.

According to NDTV, three actors performed the daring stunt while shooting for the film "Masthigudi".

The actors were shooting a jump scene from a chopper as part of the climax action sequence of the movie at Thippagondanahalli lake in Karnataka around 35 km from capital Bengaluru.

Around late afternoon, Anil, Uday and Vijay jumped into the lake from the height of 100ft. But one actor and a stunt man did not make it alive out of the reservoir, while film hero Vijay, who was wearing a life jacket, swam to safety.

A search operation is underway to fish out the bodies of the victim.

PTI has reported allegations that there were no proper safety measures in place to meet such an emergency. A diesel boat meant to be a standby for rescue reportedly developed some glitches.

Members of the Kannada and Bollywood film community have expressed shock over the incident.
