Members of an Indian family in Melbourne say they feared for their lives when intruders broke into their home and assaulted one of the male members.

Terrified members of the Singh family say three men stormed their Thomastown home in Melbourne’s north armed with guns and iron rods midnight Wednesday.

Harpreet Singh said his brother heard the front door being smashed and saw three men wearing face masks entering their home while his two-year-old nephew slept in the house.

“They were holding guns, iron rods and had hammers in their hands and were shouting at us to get on the floor,” Mr Singh told Herald Sun.

Mr Singh’s brother who did not wish to be identified said all the family members were forced onto the floor. “They were holding guns. All they were asking for is ‘hey give me the drugs, give me the drugs,” he told 7 News.

Mr Singh said one of the men spotted his nephew. “But then one of the guys yelled to the other, ‘we have the wrong house, they’re Indians’.”

Before leaving their house, the alleged offenders snatched a gold chain off Mr Singh’s neck and stole $500 from his wallet, hitting his brother.

Just hours later, the same set of men are believed to have intruded into an Epping home smashing the front door using a sledgehammer. The occupant of the house jumped out from the second floor fearing for his life and took shelter in a neighbour’s house.

A while Holden Commodore that was seen outside both houses was captured on a CCTV. Police have released images of the car hoping someone is able to recognise.
