A gender equality forum was organised to acknowledge and commemorate the achievements of Sikh women in Melbourne on Saturday.
The forum was organised by Voice of Australia in collaboration with the Sikh Forum Australia, as part of the 550th birth anniversary celebrations of Guru Nanak Dev, the first guru and founder of the Sikh faith.

Alex Bhathal, a Melbourne-based social worker, human rights advocate and environmentalist along with Brisbane-based social rights worker, Jatinder Kaur who specialises in working with migrant and refugee communities, were keynote speakers at the event.
The overall purpose of the forum was to intensify efforts of a gender-equal world, as propounded by Guru Nanak Dev who laid great emphasis on equality of all, regardless of caste or gender.
The Victorian Sikh community will be celebrating 18 events throughout the months of October and November to mark the iconic event, promising to be the biggest celebration of the birth anniversary outside of India.
