Would you like to "sail" to work instead of sitting in a traffic jam everyday?

Commuters from the western suburbs of Melbourne will be happy to know that a ferry service is being trialled from Wyndham Harbour to Docklands, from May 16 onwards.

The trial will see two daily ferry services connecting Wyndham Harbour near Point Cook and Docklands' Victoria Harbour in Melbourne's CBD. The ferry is said to have a capacity of 400 passengers at a time.

Thousands of commuters who have been frustrated by growing queues on the Westgate bridge or squashed in peak-hour train compartments may welcome the option to catch a ferry instead, but there's a catch.

The ferry service is expected to cost around $30 for a return fare (daily). And, it will take over an hour to reach Docklands from Wyndham.

It was initially expected that the travel time would be around 55 minutes, but due to speed restrictions on the Yarra river, it is expected to take 68 minutes.

What do you think? Is it a good idea? Would you give it a go?
