Do you know it is illegal to beg for money in most Australian states? Melbourne's Punjabi community has been requested to be vigilant about some 'charity workers' who knock door-to-door to collect money for some charity works to be done in Punjab. Jaspreet Singh Melbourne finds it highly 'suspicious' and has urged community to be more cautious while dealing with these people. Preetinder Singh Grewal reports…


It is illegal to beg for money in most of the Australian states - WA, NSW and ACT are exempt. According to Victorian law, “begging or gathering alms” is a criminal offence which could be punishable by fines and imprisonment.
