Eight men have been arrested by police in Pakistan after they marched a 14-year old girl naked as a revenge on her brother. Yahoo news has reported that the men had been angry at her brother for tarnishing their family honor.
The incident took place in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province of Pakistan. Police claim that the girl’s brother had developed a relationship with a woman outside his marriage. As a result, the village council had ruled that the woman’s family could insult the man’s sister as revenge.
The 14-year-old girl was fetching water on the morning of October 27, when a group of men stopped her, stripped her naked and dragged her on the ground for an hour. They then forced her to walk around the village naked.
Such village councils are illegal in Pakistan but are still widespread in rural areas where justice system is deemed to be inaccessible or ineffective.
