The family of an Indian-origin software engineer is appealing for information on what happened to the 57-year-old before he was rushed to a hospital where he is in a critical condition.

Romual ‘Rommy’ Menezes was found unconscious in the car park of Victoria Park shopping centre in Perth on Saturday, 27th January. He was taken to Royal Perth Hospital with a fractured skull and bleeding on the brain.

Police said Mr Menezes was in a stable but critical condition with serious head injuries.

“At this stage, we cannot discount an element of criminality; there may well have been a tragic accident but that is why we are calling on the public’s assistance,” Detective Constable Evan Jackson said.

Rachelle Menezes, Rommy's wife, said her last contact with her husband before the incident was on Saturday afternoon before heading to a friend’s place.

Appearing before the media with her daughters Romelle, 25, and Rheanne, 19, on Wednesday, Mrs Menezes said they were distraught in the absence of any information.

"As you can imagine, with no answers and not knowing whether he’s going to come back home, we’re very upset and distraught and that’s why we’re just reaching out for answers,” Seven West Media quoted Mrs Menezes as saying.

“Doctors did say, based on the injuries he’s sustained, they don’t believe it could have just happened out of a fall,” she said.

She said her husband isn’t the kind of person who gets into fights.

“Rommy is normally a very fun loving person, he just strikes up a conversation.

“He is very family oriented and his two girls are his life. He would not have got into any altercations with anyone, he is not an aggressive person,” she added.

Police said passersby found Mr Menezes laying unconscious at 11:30 PM on Saturday.  Police could not say whether he was bashed or hit by a car. Det Constable Jackson said he wasn’t robbed and his car was found in the car park.

Police want to speak to the occupants of a white Hyundai Getz and a silver Hyundai van that were seen parked in the car park that evening.

Police have appealed to anyone with information or with CCTV vision of the area to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or at www.crimestopperswa.com.au.
