Wyndham councillor Intaj Khan has issued a public apology after breaching the council’s Code of Conduct regarding comments made by him online and in the media. According to Star Weekly, the council had suspended Intaj Khan in September, from any position in which he represented the city, including council meetings, for a period of four weeks.
The verdict also included a requirement of an apology from Intaj Khan for his comment which was
“I strongly oppose Wyndham City Council’s delay to frustrate Labor Government’s attempt to bring a Wyndham Indian cultural precinct to celebrate Indian culture.”
Councillor Intaj Khan returned to the council chambers on Wednesday night where he mentioned that he regretted if anyone found his wording “inappropriate”.
It has also been reported that Mayor Henry Barlow interrupted Cr Khan’s apology apeech twice, asking him to remain on topic.
Cr Khan completed his apology by saying that he supported good work in the community and freedom of speech.
