The history of Eugene Shlusser's family is both similar, and different to the family stories of other emigres from the Soviet Union. A part of his family escaped after the revolution to Paris and Berlin. Then in the late twenties his parents managed to get to Germany and lived there until the end of WW2. And from there his mother left Europe again with her children to go as far as Australia. Why did this happen? This question occupied Eugene for a long time, and he discovered the disturbing answers in his book Escape from the Sun
