Professor Ivars Kalvins the chairman Latvian Institute of Organic Synthesis is the inventor of Meldonium which is trade-named Mildronat. Last year he was named finalist for 2015 European Inventor Award for number of achievements including for this one of Latvia's most successful drugs. It was invented 40 years ago when Latvia was still a Soviet republic. Now this medication is from 1 January 2016 included into WADA list of prohibited substances for use by athletes.
