Dmytro Popov is regarded as one of the brightest young singers performing on the most prestigious opera stages of the world - the Metropolitan, Covent Garden, and Vienna Opera. It would seem there is a huge distance for the boy from miner's town in Donbas to the glorified tenor parties of the heroes of classical operas. But having talked to Dmytro about his role of Jose after the magnificent opening night of Carmen in the new Melbourne season of Opera Australia, you became convinced that his path is not accidental. Interestingly, in his interpretation these rather "operatic" characters will find flesh and blood and sincerity which will touch the hearts of most fussy audience.
