The blazes raging across California are the deadliest and most destructive in the state's history. In the south, the Woolsey fire has so far killed two people and damaged beach resorts, including luxury homes in Malibu. Susanna Brisk lives in the neighbouring area of Topanga Canyon and shared with us the experiences of the day when the flames could come quite close.
