More than two years ago, a full-scale war began in Ukraine. Since then, more than 13.5 thousand Ukrainians have arrived in Australia. 3,790 people were allowed to stay in Australia with a 786 humanitarian visa. Some of these families moved to regional Australia. We travelled to Orange and Molong in NSW to tell you the stories of three families for whom this place became their new home.

Oleksandr Volodin, his wife Victoria and their two children, Denis and Dima, had to move from Ukraine, fleeing the war, to Australia. Another son of Oleksandr from his first marriage remained in Ukraine. They are from Dnieper, where Oleksandr owns a small car service station. They moved to Australia in 2022 and applied for a 786 temporary humanitarian visa.

Two more stories about Ukrainians living in regional Australia will be published soon. Don't miss them, and subscribe to our podcasts on the SBS Audio app SBS Audio.
