Every year is owned by an animal that has once upon a time arrived to greet the Buddha. Every one of them acted according to its own character and circumstances: the swift-footed Horse has nobly conceded the way to the legless Snake, and the quick Rat tried to beat the others jumping on a back of Buffalo. But the dog being on guard all night long, had jumped in water while panting, and caught a cough. That why it came in only the eleventh, second last.
