Latvian soprano Maija Kovalevska debuts in Melbourne in the Opera Australia production of La Boheme. Maija says that to sing the role of Mimi is one of the most moving experiences for her and she is coming back to this role every time with very deep feelings. She is very thankful to her teacher and mentor renowned Italian soprano Mirella Freni who taught her not just singing technics but opened some secrets of the stage. Maija is attributing her incredible international success to winning a number of singing competitions, but admits that she doesn't really make any plans for future roles - it seems that Higher powers that hand them out to her, when she is ready.
