This week the chess World celebrated a rare occasion. For the first time in 23 years the World Chess Federation (Fide) received a new head - Arkady Dvorkovich, the former deputy prime minister of Russia, finishing the long reign of Kirsan Ilyumzhinov, who was ousted in July. The president of the Victorian Chess Association Leonid Sandler was following the exiting election marathon in Batumi at the 43d Chess Olympiad with the women's team from Wales. We contacted him to ask, how the elections unfolded.
