If COVID-19 is not contained effectively in India, the pandemic there will possibly be worse than any in history.

India has 1.3 billion people with many living in poverty.

Compared to Samoa with its population of barely 200,000 people and surrounded by lagoons and the Pacific Ocean, India has some of the world's most densely populated cities. Managing the pandemic in India is much harder task.

India's prime minister Narendra Modi has ordered all international and domestic travel to be halted, schools closed and only essential businesses operating.

Mr Modi has also ordered India's 1.3 billion citizens to self-isolate for 21 days. It's a hard ask for the millions of Indians who are homeless.
