They have been vetted by the new US administration, and the first 54 asylum seekers who have passed scrutiny will soon leave the offshore detention centres in Nauru and Manus Island to start a new life in the USA. This partial outcome is the result of an agreement between the federal government of Australia and the Barack Obama administration.
