Another mass shooting, another rethink of gun laws in America

Over a three-month period, hundreds of guns were handed during the second national gun amnesty since the Port Arthur massacre in 1996

The flaw in the over-used argument from the president of the American National Rifle Association that goes - 'the only way to stop a bad guy with a gun, is a good guy with a gun' - was plainly revealed when a gunman with many semi-automatic rifles shot indiscriminately at a crowd of concert-goers in Las Vegas from inside a hotel room 32 stories high.

Another mass shooting in the US, this time in Las Vegas when gunman Stephen Paddock plans and shoots indiscriminately at a crowd of concert-goers in Las Vegas, killing 58 and wounding nearly 500 people.  The authorities are yet to discover a motive, but yet again the debate on gun ownership and gun laws in the US rages on as it does after every mass shooting, and yet again comparisons are being made with Australia where gun ownership laws were tightened after the Port Arthur massacre in 1996.
