Five police officers were killed when they were shot at a protest rally in Dallas, Texas last Thursday.

Prayers and vigils have been held in the United States after a sniper killed five police officers and wounded seven at a protest against the shooting of black men by police.

Authorities describe the attack as coordinated and carefully planned, saying it is the deadliest attack on US police officers since the September 11 attacks in 2001.

It has exposed heightened tensions on the issue of race in US society.
