The International Criminal Court once had a Samoan judge presiding on its bench. The ICC at the Hague was always weakened by the fact that 3 of the most powerful countries in the world - USA, Russia and China - had never signed on to it. Now, one of its founding members, South Africa, is withdrawing from the ICC.

"Written notice to withdraw from the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court has been submitted to the Secretary-General of the United Nations in accordance with Article 127(1) of the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court. The withdrawal will take effect one year after the secretary-general has received the notification."
