“When you carry out acts of homosexuality through force or duress or undue influence then the law defines that as aggravated homosexuality and what is the punishment? The maximum punishment is death. So when you commit aggravated homosexuality, the law says you shall be liable to suffer death.”

"I think that is the final nail in the coffin because you see we have been targeted well long before even when those bills have not been initiated but now every, it's like a household talk. And since it has been signed than that means, people are going to be jailed, other people are going to be murdered."

"This bill has okayed violence against LGBTQ+ Ugandans, it has okayed discrimination, it has okayed crude violations of human rights against LGBTQ+ Ugandans. It will enable intimidation, further justification of human rights violations for a community that is already marginalised."

"We see that the more states are sponsoring these bills, these hateful legislations, the more the LGBT community is impacted. And also that affects as well how other politicians and other countries are following suit. So this bill as it's signed now into law by president Museveni is having real consequences on the LGBTQ individuals not only in Uganda but also across the region."

"This act of parliament has a number of flaws that we are highlighting in our petition. One of the main flaws is that the act was passed without adequate and meaningful public participation. So when they are making law, the public has to be involved, more especially the people who are concerned. But we saw during the hearings of the committee and during the time the bill was under discussion that not even a single LGBTQI person was before the committee to have their views heard and this is a law that affects them directly."
