According to data from the Committee To Protect Journalists, 83 journalists and media workers have been killed this year alone. Further reports from non-profit organisation, Journalists Without Borders, say that this number is 15 more than last year. Half of all killed journalists in 2018 are from Afghanistan, Syria, Mexico, Yemen and India. This number comes as TIME Magazine announces journalists as their 2018 Person of the Year, including slain Saudi Arabian journalist Jamal Khashoggi, Phillipino journalist Maria Ressa, the newsroom at Captial Newspaper in Annapolis, and Reuters journalists Wa Lone and Kyaw Soe Oo.
