After four and a half years of dedicated work on promotion of women empowerment and on preservation of Serbian cultural and historical heritage Australian Ambassador to Belgrade HE Julia Feeney has been decorated Ethno Network's medal. The event was hosted by Belgrade City Manager, Mr Goran Vesic and in presence of many Mayors from Serbia and colleagues from the Diplomatic Corps.


Belgrade's Deputy Mayor Goran Vesić hosted a formal reception for the outgoing Ambassador of Australia to Belgrade Ms Julia Feeney and presented her with the Ethno Network Medal for her contribution to the cultural heritage and economic empowerment of women and youth in Serbia. He also announced that he personally would nominate Ms Feeney to become the honorary citizen of Belgrade.

- She has helped us as a nation to understand how important and huge our cultural heritage is, that we can share with the rest of the world. She made us to see the value of our unique hand made Stapar and Pirot rugs and unique Serbian gourmet food. She also helped us to re-discover our history, supporting the archeological project "Glac" at the Sremska Mitrovica site.

Ambassador Fini pointed out that she had a great privilege to serve Australia in Belgrade for the last four years, and that empowering women for her is a smart, not only politically correct move. She said that she had the an additional privilege of participating in the preservation of an exceptional cultural heritage in Serbia.
