Last year's Serbian film festival opening night film was "Out of the woods", directed by Marko Kostic. This Tuesday film was awarded with "Crystal Koala" as the best movie at the festival. Australian Ambassador to Belgrade HE Julia Feeney has handed the koala to Mr Kostic at the ceremony in the Serbian Film Centre in Belgrade.
This emotional story follows the struggle of Stojanka who leaves city life and returns to her home village where she must raise her two grandchildren. She is determined to do this to the best of her ability.
Stojanka’s daughter and son-in-law emigrated to America; she has not had any contact with them for over four years. They do not send any money to help her raise the grandchildren. However, Stojanka is resourceful and she earns money telling people their fortune by reading coffee cups, massage and rabbit hunting.
Although born and raised in the village, Stojanka no longer fits into the life patter and is always in confrontation with neighbours and other people in the village.
