Thousands of Australians are in France to commemorate what is considered the deadliest battle in Australian military history. It has been 100 years since the bloody battles of Fromelles (July 19) and Pozieres. (July 23). The number of dead was more than the Australian casualties in the Boer War, the Korean War and the Vietnam War put together. A soldier in one of the battles documented life on what was known as the Western Front in hundreds of rare photos.
